Performing Artists, Entertainers, and Athletes (P/O)

P visas are nonimmigrant visas issued to talented foreign nationals who are coming to perform or coach for an employer or sponsor, either individually or as part of a group or cultural exchange program. P-1 athletes must be “internationally recognized”, of a high level of achievement, or employed by an established sponsor, such as major-league teams or an internationally recognized competition. P-1 performing artists must be part of an internationally recognized foreign entertainment group, and must be attending an event requiring such recognized groups.

P-2 visas are for artists and entertainers performing as part of a reciprocal cultural exchange program between U.S.-based and foreign-based organizations. P-3 visas are issued to those coming to perform, teach, or coach in culturally unique programs. Workers in positions that have a cultural component may also be eligible for a Q visa. Performers and athletes of extraordinary ability may be eligible for an O visa.

P visas are usually valid for a year, with 1 year extensions possible.
