Transferred Employees (L)
Intra-Company Transferees (L Visas)
The L visa is designated for intra company transferees of those foreign companies who need to transfer executives, managers or skilled workers from their overseas company to a current or start up company in the U.S. The foreign worker must have been employed by the sponsoring company for at least one year within the last three years prior to coming to the US in an executive, managerial or specialized knowledge capacity, and their intended employment must also fit into these categories. International corporations which need to transfer employees frequently can apply for a blanket L visa which pre-qualifies the employer to sponsor multiple L1 visa transferees. There are no numerical limitations on L visas.
The maximum length of time permitted under this category is five or seven years, depending on the L visa category.
